Can you guess what it is?

While visiting the old part of Kashgar you will see many interesting things including cradles fashioned for newly born babes.  The bed is usually around 1m long, 70cm wide and 60cm high.  In the middle of the cradle is a hole to act at the child’s potty.  After seven days the child is placed in the cradle and a party is held after 40 days.  For ladies this party is particularly significant.

Inside the cradle we place matches around the edge and bound the baby in tightly.  Placing the baby in the cradle is believed to be good for the child’s shape.  The baby can use the toilet naturally while remaining dry underneath and mother and child can sleep soundly at night.

What do you think of this?  Many people guess it is a kind of pipe for smoking.  Others people guess it is a kind of flute. Do you think they are right?  What do you think?  Let me tell you.  It is a pea pipe for a baby.  You already know about the baby cradle and the toilet inside it.  The pea pipe is for the baby to urine into the toilet using this pipe.  We have one for a boy and another for a baby girl.

This is a special kind of kettle and basin which is used for washing your hands

While you are a guest to a Uighur home. It is very impolite to shake your hands off after washing.  For this, you should make use of the towel offered after washing is done
