Day trip to Hanoi ancient city and Mor Pagoda
Our guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel at 8:00am local time
and drive to Hanoi ancient city, passing through many villages along the
way. This ancient city is located in Beshkiram village (heavenly orchard)
which is also the most famous village for pomegranates and grapes in
Xinjiang. Here you’ll have a great opportunity to visit several local
families and taste grapes and pomegranates from their orchards.
Hanoi ancient city is located about 35 kms away from Kashgar city.
According to textual research; the city has a history of more than 1500
years. The city was once an important stop on the ancient Silk Road
and the capital of the early kingdom of Kashgar. When Kashgar’s people
converted to Islam, this city was flooded and moved to Kashgar’s present
location.
A
few kilometers of the north ancient city is the site of the Mor Buddhist
Pagoda. The pagoda has three square layers each a little smaller than the
one below it. The bottom layer has a circumference of more than 48 meters,
the second layer 40 meters and the third layer 32 meters. The pagoda
stands more than 12m high.
We recommend you visit the ancient ruins on a Saturday as Beshkiram village
has a very interesting Saturday market on this day. Whilst smaller
than Kashgar’s mega Sunday market, it’s much more traditional and certainly
older and less touristy.
